Samsung X360
The 13 inch Samsung X360 is a beautifully designed little laptop, with a shockingly beautifully styled casing and a thin, light feel that rivals Apple’s MacBook Air. The metal two-tone lid looks stunning and on opening the lid you’re treated to a glossy, reflective black base and a keyboard that look remarkably similar to Apple’s isolated black rubber keys.
The screen is bright and sharp although upsettingly the colours don’t appear as crisp as the MacBook Pro screens where the colours almost pop out. This is a bit of a shame but having said that, the colours on Apple’s Mac screens do seem to be hard to beat. Another drawback to the Samsung X360 is it’s lack of optical drive, a feature shared with it’s MacBook Air rival – but unlike the competition Samsung have kindly included an external CD/DVD drive with each laptop. For free. And it looks nice too.
The Samsung X360 performs brilliantly, despite it’s 1.2 Ghz processor (it’s an Intel Core 2 Duo by the way). Even though the processor isn’t as powerful as some of it’s rivals (the MacBook Air has a 1.86 Ghz processor), it still runs programmes incredibly quickly and nimbly, especially if you’re running Windows 7 instead of the resource-heavy Vista. Multiple programmes can be open and running at once, so you can have Spotify open, Firefox open with a ton of tabs and check your emails without any noticeable slowdown. It’s a great machine with an absolutely fantastic design. Samsung have a reputation for building laptops that perform absolutely superbly which look good too and the X360 certainly doesn’t disappoint. Coupled with it’s lower price tag too, the Samsung X360 is a great choice.
