Dell Studio 17″
The 17 inch Dell Studio is one of the nicest looking laptops Dell have ever produced. Despite having a reputation for functional, but not particularly flattering, laptops Dell have really improved in the aesthetics department. Ever since the launch of the XPS range, and now lately the Studio range, Dell have started to produce laptops that not only run beautifully, they look beautiful too.
The Studio 17 is Dell’s highly desirable, colourful, desktop replacement. With a 17 inch screen, the Studio is well suited for work (and is great for graphically intensive programmes like PhotoShop and more). If you’re after a Dell laptop for gaming, the 17 inch Dell XPS M1730 might be the one for you – that’s not to say that the Studio 17 isn’t suited to running games either though. It’s 2.1 GHz processor (as a minimum) Intel Quad-Core processor is perfect for graphical work, and it’s lightning quick at powering through intensive applications. If you are planning on using it for particularly graphic intensive work though, you should probably consider upgrading the RAM though – it’s available with 6 GB of RAM which, while a bit pricey, is likely to save you from having to upgrade at a later date.
A nice feature of the Studio range is the inclusion of the Dell Dock, a similar idea to Mac’s famous dock. This feature is included in all new Studio lines, and makes dealing with work and applications much easier, as well as looking good (although not quite as clean and crisp as Mac’s version, for some reason).
The Dell Studio also has other nice features, including a backlit keyboard, a high res glossy widescreen display, a built in webcam, an HDMI port for high definition output and an incredibly powerful 256 MB ATI HD graphics card.
If you’re interested in a desktop replacement that’s suitable for work as well as gaming, this is probably the laptop for you.
