Alienware M17x

alienware-m17xThe Alienware M17x is the incredibly powerful and (to be honest) fairly pricey bigger brother to the Alienware M15x. With a 17 inch screen and a very hefty weight it’s not recommended if you’re looking for a laptop that you can easily take with you – it’s massive. Having said that, if you’re looking for a desktop replacement and you’re either big on games or big on really intensive software (as in, you find Photoshop often wants to kill itself because of you) then the M17x might be the laptop for you.

The tech specs are impressive, and if money wasn’t an issue you could go all the way up to an Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX9300 processor (which is ridiculously powerful), 8 GB of RAM and a 1GB GeoForce GTX 280M graphics card, which (for a laptop) is incredible. That does of course come with a hefty price tag, but the base level version which comes in at just shy of £1,700 is still more powerful than most other laptops can even dream of being.

It’s also got the incredible security features that it’s little brother has, with Alienware’s insane face-scanning technology that uses the webcam to, er…scan your face. If it’s you, great – if it’s someone else, then you can set it to lock them out. You can also set it to automatically lock the computer if you get up and walk away, which is an innovative and, if we’re being honest, mental feature for any laptop to have. It’s still brilliant though.

If you’ve got the cash to spare and you need to have the processing power of an absolutely monolith, this comes highly recommended. If you’re looking for a laptop that you can actually take with you though, this might not be the one for you.
